Matrimony
If you have come to our parish website looking for information about celebrating the Sacrament of Marriage, we begin by saying “congratulations!” More than ever today our world and our church need examples of couples called by Christ to live together in this beautiful sacrament, which is a commitment of love that is an image of the covenant of love between God and His people. We look forward to being part of your preparation for this sacred day in your lives.

Usually, preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage in the Archdiocese of Newark (this includes St. Paul Church, Ramsey) begins with contacting our Parish Office at least one year in advance to secure a date on the parish calendar. A priest (or deacon if you prefer) will be assigned to work with you during this time of preparation. You can request a particular priest for your wedding; if that priest is available on the date you choose, he will be happy to oblige. Formal preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage includes:

-
Several meetings with the priest/deacon who will be officiating at the wedding.
-
Participation in Pre-Cana and God’s Plan for a joy-filled Marriage.
-
Marriage Inventory participation (this is an instrument the priest will use to help the couple in their discussions about important topics of marital life).
-
Meeting with our Director of Music to discuss musical options.

These requirements will be explained in detail when you meet with the priest officiant. He will also explain the documentation required (e.g. sacramental certificates, marriage license, etc.) and answer any questions you may have.

The Catholic Church, in its documents about Marriage, says that “Authentic married love is caught up into divine love…So that this love may lead the spouses to God.” (Vatican II- Gaudium et Spes) This is our hope and our prayer! If we can be of help, please let us know.
